Songmao Village is located on the upper reaches of the Dajia River, at an altitude of approximately 1600 meters. It is a long and narrow village with limited flat land, and it is named after the dense pine trees that surround it. During the Japanese colonial period, the residents settled in a place called Sliant (磐石, meaning 'bedrock' or 'rock') at the intersection of Huanshan Zhongxing Road in today's Pingdeng Village, which is why it is also known as 'Panshi Village' or 'Village of Rocks'.
