Xiangtian Lake Tribe

Xiangtian Lake is located in Donghe Village, Nanzhuang Township, at an altitude of approximately 738 meters. Its Saisiyat name is 'rareme:an'. The origin of 'rareme:an' dates back to when the ancestors first developed this land. They discovered many plants there whose seeds could be used as dye. In the Saisiyat language, 'rareme:' means dye, and 'an' refers to the place where these dye plants grew. Therefore, Xiangtian Lake was called 'rareme:an', signifying 'the place full of dye plants'. During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese discovered a stream nearby where rice could be cultivated in the central area. This basin is surrounded by mountains on three sides. Later, Han Chinese settlers arrived and referred to this small basin as 'Yangtian Lake' (仰天湖). The name was officially changed to 'Xiangtian Lake' after the Kuomintang government relocated to Taiwan.
