'Lilang,' in the Atayal language, means 'people from deep in the mountains.' Due to its mountainous backdrop, proximity to the river, and comfortable climate, the Lilang River—with its stable year-round flow—meanders through the various settlements. As some sections of the riverbank are close to the road, it attracts many tourists who come to play in the water every summer. The Seven Heavens Waterfall Group, Four Warriors Five-Needle Pine Trail, Baxianshan Forest Recreation Area, and Lilang Sea of Clouds are among the must-visit hidden gems for hikers. Because the Lilang Tribe was developed relatively late, it still preserves rich and diverse flora and fauna. Strolling along the Lilang Forest Road, one can easily spot native plants such as two-needle pines, Machilus zuihoensis, and casuarinas, not to mention countless insects, birds, frogs, and butterflies, making it a natural ecological classroom.
