The Saisiyat, an indigenous people of Taiwan, are widely known for their biennial Dwarf Spirit Festival (Pasta'ay). Their primary residential areas are Wufeng Township in Hsinchu County, and Nanzhuang Township and Shitan Township in Miaoli County. The Saisiyat people in Wufeng Township live close to the Atayal people and are known as the 'Northern Saisiyat'; the Saisiyat people in Nanzhuang Township live close to the Hakka people and are known as the 'Southern Saisiyat'. Due to the sparse Saisiyat population, the Saisiyat Indigenous Cultural Museum was established by Xiangtian Lake in Miaoli to preserve their precious culture and artifacts.
