Donghe Walu

Walu is located in Nanzhuang Township, Miaoli County, covering an area of approximately 76 square kilometers. The village is home to a rich coexistence of diverse cultures. This includes Saisiyat people residing in communities such as Xiangtian Lake, Dawoshan, Dazhuwei, Egongji, and Donghe. Atayal people, on the other hand, live in communities like Lucang, Luhu, Shibì, and Donghe. As for the Hakka people, they reside in areas such as Hengpingbei, Lu'ailiao, and Donghe, totaling 347 households and approximately 1325 residents. Near the Donghe Suspension Bridge stands a striking Japanese-style wooden building, the former police station, built in the 13th year of the Republic (1924). It was abandoned after the 77th year of the Republic (1988) and was not revitalized until the 94th year of the Republic (2005) through the efforts of local residents and with subsidies from the Council of Indigenous Peoples.
