Visitor Essentials
Ita Thao Pier is located on the shores of Sun Moon Lake in Yuchi Township, Nantou County. It is one of the four major piers on Sun Moon Lake and a key hub for tourists to take boat tours. The pier is adjacent to the bustling Ita Thao shopping district, which is the main settlement of the Thao indigenous people. It blends rich indigenous culture with natural beauty, making it a popular must-visit attraction for tourists. Ita Thao Pier has undergone multiple renovations and redevelopments, featuring a spacious pier plaza and octagonal buildings, creating a comfortable and pleasant environment. Around the pier, there are a visitor service center, public restrooms, parking lots, and walking trails, convenient for visitors to rest and plan their trips. At the pier plaza, visitors can often enjoy scheduled traditional pestle music performances, experiencing the rhythm and spirit of Thao culture. On the gangway leading to the floating dock, a must-pass spot before boarding boats for lake tours, there is a unique set of 'Q-version' nine frog figurines. Unlike Sun Moon Lake's famous 'Nine Frogs Stack' which are vertically stacked, these frogs are arranged horizontally. Their design is lively and adorable, with frogs of various sizes in different poses – some carrying things, some sitting, and even some riding bicycles, full of fun and childlike charm. Operating hours: Summer (approx. April to September annually) 07:00–18:00; Winter (approx. October to March annually) 08:00–17:00. In case of adverse weather conditions such as typhoons or dense fog, the pier will be temporarily closed, and ferry services will be suspended.
