Visitor Essentials

Xuan Guang Pier is one of the four major piers on Sun Moon Lake, located below Xuan Guang Temple in Yuchi Township, Nantou. It is an important stop for Sun Moon Lake cruises, and visitors taking lake tours must pass through here. The pier's architecture adopts a Tang Dynasty-inspired style, complemented by plaques with retro fonts. It harmonizes with the nearby Xuan Guang Temple, creating an elegant and rustic atmosphere. Xuan Guang Pier is well-equipped with surrounding facilities. Next to the pier is the famous 'Grandma's Tea Eggs' stall, where the savory and flavorful tea eggs are a must-try delicacy for tourists, attracting large crowds. The pier is also the starting point of the 850-meter-long Qinglong Mountain Trail. Ascending the steps will first lead you to Xuan Guang Temple, and continuing further up will take you to Xuanzang Temple. Because many devout pilgrims travel by boat to Xuan Guang Temple Pier to visit both temples, much like a religious pilgrimage, the trail is also known as the 'Pilgrim's Trail'. Opening hours: Summer (approximately April to September) 07:00 – 18:00; Winter (approximately October to March) 08:00 – 17:00. In case of adverse weather conditions such as typhoons or dense fog, the pier will be temporarily closed, and ferry services will be suspended.
