Checheng Railway Station is located in Shuili Township, Nantou County, and serves as the terminal station of the Jiji Line, earning it the moniker "the Last Train Station." Built during the Japanese colonial era, the station originally featured a reinforced concrete structure and bore witness to the prosperity of Taiwan's timber and sugar transportation industries. Starting in 1916, the Puli Sugar Refinery transported sugar to Checheng via pushcarts, from where it was then shipped out by railway. The area in front of the station was once filled with these carts, giving rise to the name "Checheng" (meaning "cart yard"). After the 921 Earthquake in 1999, the original station was severely damaged. Subsequently, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration led its reconstruction, utilizing a large amount of raw timber as the primary building material and even paving the open space in front of the station with wood. This created a simple yet elegant, warm, and natural architectural style. The new station complements the surrounding mountain town scenery beautifully and is hailed as "the Most Beautiful Train Station." Checheng Railway Station is not only a transportation hub but also integrates local industrial cultures such as timber, railway, and power generation. The area around the station retains the charm of Japanese-style wooden architecture, with large railway lawns and wood-paved spaces becoming popular spots for photos and check-ins. As soon as travelers alight, they are surrounded by beautiful mountains on all sides, as if entering a paradise, leading it to be called "the Secret Garden." With its unique wooden architecture, long history, and natural scenery, Checheng Railway Station has become an unmissable cultural landmark and tourist highlight in Nantou's mountain town. Opening Hours: The lobby and platforms are open daily from 07:00 to 22:30, allowing passengers to enter and exit to board trains, as this is the terminal station of the Jiji Line. Ticket counter hours are from 09:30 to 17:00. Please note that during national holidays, natural disasters, or other special closures, operations are subject to on-site or official announcements. Currently, service on the Jiji Line between Zhuoshui Station and Checheng Station is suspended, with full line service anticipated to resume by late 2026 (July-August).
