Checheng Railway Tourism School

Checheng Elementary School was closed in 2015 due to declining birth rates, leaving the campus vacant for many years. To revitalize this valuable space, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration collaborated with the Nantou County Government to convert the school buildings into the "Checheng Railway Tourism School" and establish a new Checheng Visitor Center. This successful transformation turned the former campus into a popular attraction that integrates education, culture, and tourism. On the second floor, the railway-themed exhibition hall meticulously presents the complete route of the Jiji Line, from its starting station Ershui, through Yuanquan, Zhuoshui, Longquan, Jiji, and Shuili, to its terminal station Checheng, using detailed scale models. This allows visitors to 'walk through' the Jiji Line railway indoors. The exhibition hall also houses a collection of historical Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) tickets and railway artifacts, and features a simulated train tunnel scene called "Jiguang Tunnel," with rich historical information displayed on both sides, providing in-depth knowledge of railway culture. The Checheng Railway Tourism School combines railway culture, historical preservation, and interactive experiences, making it ideal for family trips, railway enthusiasts, and culture lovers. Visitors can obtain detailed travel information at the visitor center and also explore Checheng Old Street, the Log Pond, and nearby timber industry exhibition halls to enjoy the rich cultural and natural scenery.
