Longnan Natural Lacquer Museum

The Longnan Natural Lacquer Museum is located in Puli Township, Nantou County, adjacent to Puli Elementary School. It is a unique museum dedicated to showcasing Taiwan's traditional natural lacquer culture and the development of its industry. The museum's mission is to preserve and promote natural lacquer craftsmanship. It exhibits lacquerware furniture and artifacts from the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as displays the historical evolution of Taiwan's lacquer industry and related cultural relics, serving as an important hub for understanding Taiwan's lacquer art culture. The museum offers rich content, featuring not only exquisite ancient lacquerware but also introductions to the growth of lacquer trees, the process of tapping raw lacquer, and the craftsmanship involved in making lacquerware. The museum also integrates educational and experiential functions, allowing visitors to delve into the cultural value and practical applications of natural lacquer, while promoting its environmental and health benefits. The Longnan Natural Lacquer Museum suffered severe damage during the 921 Earthquake in 1999. Founder Mr. Xu Yufu, undeterred by the difficulties, took out loans for renovations, steadfastly preserving this traditional industry and culture, demonstrating a profound sense of mission and family commitment. Currently, the museum also sells high-quality lacquer art products and offers guided tours, allowing visitors to experience the unique charm of natural lacquer firsthand. The opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00, closed on Mondays. There is a daily break from 12:00 to 13:30.
