Jian Jing Palace

An Earth God temple located next to Jiulongkou, at the intersection of Zhushiyuan Ecological Research Center. Legend has it that when the Japanese were constructing hydroelectric power plants at Sun Moon Lake, local residents often saw a group of sparkling, shiny objects flying around in the sky. These were said to be the 'Dragon-Silver' (龍仔銀) creatures living at the bottom of the lake. Disturbed by the ongoing construction, they migrated towards Puli. This location was where people first spotted these 'Dragon-Silver' creatures, hence it was named 'Jian Jing' (見晶). From a modern scientific perspective, on a clear day when the sun shines on the lake, the water shimmers and glistens with golden light. Especially from the location of the Earth God temple, looking out, the water surface appears sparkling brightly, therefore, it is named 'Jian Jing'.
