Hanbi Literary Trail

The Hanbi Literary Trail is located on the Hanbi Peninsula of Sun Moon Lake. It is a gentle forest trail approximately 1.5 kilometers long, circling the lakeside, suitable for visitors of all ages to enjoy a leisurely stroll, taking about 1 hour to complete. The trail combines natural beauty with literary art, featuring 12 poetic plaques along its path, all themed around 'love'. These works were created by renowned domestic literary figures and come with QR codes. Visitors can simply scan the codes to enjoy audio-visual recordings of the authors personally reciting their poems, enhancing the cultural depth and romantic atmosphere of their journey. The trail entrance can be accessed via a small path next to the Jesus Church or through the entrance of the Senior Citizens' Activity Center (Yuchi Township Sun Moon Lake Senior Citizens' Recreation Center). The entire trail is stair-free and flat, making it suitable for visitors with mobility impairments (assisted accompaniment is recommended). Along the way, the vegetation is lush, and birds such as the Taiwan Barbet, Rufous-capped Babbler, and Swinhoe's White-eye are active, indicating rich ecological resources. The environment is tranquil and pleasant. The Hanbi Literary Trail connects several historical and cultural attractions, including the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Pavilion, Hanbi Pier, Yule Pavilion, and Xingtian Altar. Yule Pavilion is a Chinese-style hexagonal pavilion built in the 50th year of the Republic (1961). Inside the pavilion are quotes from Chiang Kai-shek. It offers expansive views, overlooking the Green Dragon Mountain Range, Lalu Island in the lake, Xuanguang Temple, Xuanzang Temple, and Ci'en Pagoda, forming a beautiful visual axis known as the 'Line of Happiness,' attracting many visitors to make wishes for happiness here. Xingtian Altar, on the other hand, was the former teaching site of The Lalu Hotel, and is now a cultural exhibition area where visitors can learn about the hotel's history and cultural background. Both sides of the trail are also planted with fragrant shrubs such as osmanthus and gardenia, favored by Madame Chiang. From the trail, looking out at Sun Moon Lake, the water surface acts like a mirror, reflecting the hazy mountain scenery, creating an enchanting view. Chiang Kai-shek and his wife frequently strolled along the Hanbi Trail to admire the beauty of Sun Moon Lake during their lifetime. This place has hosted many famous domestic and international figures, holding an important position in modern history.
