Longfeng Temple

Sun Moon Lake Longfeng Temple is a historic temple with nearly a century of history. It primarily enshrines Qankui Patriarch, Emperor Xuanwu of the North Pole, and Mazu (Heavenly Holy Mother), making it one of the most important religious centers for local residents. Longfeng Temple is renowned for its unique three-dimensional dragon and phoenix relief sculptures, a distinct departure from the common style of temples featuring painted door gods. The floor in front of the temple also showcases intricate dragon and phoenix designs, reflecting exquisite craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage. Another major feature of Longfeng Temple is its Matchmaker God (Yue Lao) Shrine. Originally, the Matchmaker God Shrine was established in 1980 on Lalu Island (Guanghua Island) in Sun Moon Lake, becoming Taiwan's first temple dedicated to Yue Lao and hosting group weddings on the water, which attracted many couples and tourists. The 921 Earthquake in 1999 destroyed the Matchmaker God Pavilion on Lalu Island. Following petitions from local residents, the statue of Yue Lao was moved to Longfeng Temple at the end of 2000 and officially enshrined there, becoming a significant center for Yue Lao worship in central Taiwan. Today, the Matchmaker God Shrine at Longfeng Temple is bustling with worshippers, with many single men and women coming to pray for good relationships. The legends of Yue Lao's efficacy have further cemented its status as a popular tourist attraction in Sun Moon Lake. Longfeng Temple is not only a religious center but also integrates the natural beauty and romantic ambiance of Sun Moon Lake. Visitors can experience the rich local culture and spiritual power here, and immerse themselves in the romantic legend of Sun Moon Lake as the 'Honeymoon Lake'.
