Tou She Living Basin, located in Yuchi Township, Nantou County, southwest of Sun Moon Lake, is a typical high-mountain peatland basin. It sits at an elevation of approximately 600 to 700 meters and covers an area of about 1.7 square kilometers. Due to its unique peat soil, the ground here is soft and rich in organic matter. When walked upon, it gives a peculiar wave-like swaying sensation, earning it the nicknames 'Dancing Land' or 'Mambo Field.' It is one of Taiwan's rare geological wonders. The Tou She Living Basin was formed over thousands of years by the accumulation of aquatic plants and silt, creating fertile peat soil. It was once a shallow lake, which later became a basin due to sediment deposition. This soil is highly suitable for agriculture, particularly renowned for its loofah cultivation, making it one of Taiwan's largest loofah production areas. Additionally, various other agricultural products such as honeysuckle and vegetables are grown here. Local residents utilize this land to develop safe and leisure agriculture, combining ecological conservation and environmental education to promote slow-living rural tourism. Visitors to Tou She Living Basin can experience the unique sensation of walking on peat soil, visit historical sites like Grandma's Laundry, admire the charming painted rural villages, and participate in agricultural experience activities such as loofah herbal handmade soap DIY and loofah noodle DIY. The area also offers canal bamboo raft tours, allowing visitors to appreciate the basin scenery and rich aquatic plant ecosystem from the water. Tou She Living Basin is conveniently accessible, located near the entrance to Sun Moon Lake's circumferential road. It offers parking facilities and walking trails, making it suitable for families, nature lovers, and ecotourists. With a cool climate year-round and a tranquil environment, it is an excellent destination to experience the rural culture and natural ecology surrounding Sun Moon Lake. Sun Moon Lake.
