TouShe Houjian Mountain Trail

The Houjian Mountain Trail, located in Toushe Village, Yuchi Township, Nantou County, is the southernmost famous mountain in Yuchi Township and the highest point in Toushe Village, with an elevation of approximately 1008 meters. It is listed as Taiwan's Little Hundred Mountains No. 52 and is renowned as "one of the Four Beauties of Sun Moon Lake." The Houjian Mountain Trail is approximately 6.5 kilometers long, features well-planned routes, and is suitable for hikers with good physical fitness who enjoy challenges. The trail starts in Toushe Village, initially follows a gentle industrial road, then enters a shaded forest area. The final approximately 225-meter section of steep stairs is the most challenging part of the entire route; each step is about 30 centimeters high, and the slope is very steep, posing a significant test for those with a fear of heights. Upon reaching the summit, there is a resting pavilion and a Class 3 triangulation station, offering excellent views. Hikers can overlook the Toushe Basin, the magnificent scenery of Sun Moon Lake, and gaze at majestic mountains such as Jiji Mountain, Xiluan Mountain, Zhimao Mountain, and Shuisha Mountain in the distance. To the south, they can see the mountain ranges and valleys of the Zhuoshui River's southern source. The captivating and grand scenery helps visitors forget their hiking fatigue. Due to its sharp and prominent peak, Houjian Mountain is very noticeable when viewed from the south of Toushe Village. The power transmission tower near its summit has become its landmark symbol. Locals also refer to this mountain as "Wanggaoliao" (Watchtower), giving it special geographical and cultural significance.
