Jiulongkou Grand Platform

This area features gentle terrain, leading to the construction of an over-water platform designed as an outdoor performance space. The platform's wave-like design symbolizes the posture of nine dragons soaring. To enhance the waterside experience, a hydrophilic platform with hollowed grid panels was specially designed along its curved outer edge, allowing visitors at high water levels to intimately feel the waves and the cool mist from the water's surface. Standing here, in addition to admiring the floating fields on the water, one can also gaze upon the distant Ci'en Pagoda, Qinglong Mountain, Erlong Mountain, and other mountain ranges. Jiulongkou itself is located just above the Jiulongkou Grand Platform, serving as the junction for entering Sun Moon Lake's Shuishe or heading towards Yidashao. Sun Moon Lake was once known as 'Dragon Lake.' Geomancers believed that the peninsulas extending from the surrounding mountains into the lake resembled living dragons burrowing into the water. With Lalu Island, originally named 'Pearl Islet,' in the center of the lake, the scene was described as 'Nine Dragons Playing with a Pearl.' There are also numerous dragon-related place names along the lake, including Lunlong Ridge, Qinglong Mountain, and Erlong Mountain. Consequently, the place on Provincial Highway 21 where one enters the Sun Moon Lake area was named Jiulongkou.
