Guangxing Paper Mill

Located on Tieshan Road in Puli Township, Nantou, Guangxing Paper Mill is one of Taiwan's few paper manufacturers that still preserves traditional handmade papermaking techniques. Founded in 1965 by Mr. Huang Yao-dong, the mill leveraged Puli's pure water quality and excellent papermaking environment. In its early days, Guangxing Paper Mill primarily focused on OEM production, gradually researching and improving handmade Xuan paper. Its excellent quality led to exports to Japan and South Korea in the 1980s, establishing it as an important representative of Taiwanese handmade paper. Guangxing Paper Mill not only upholds ancient papermaking traditions but also actively innovates. It has successfully utilized local agricultural waste from Puli, such as water bamboo husks and betel nut tree trunks, to create unique local handmade papers like 'Xifu Xuan' and 'Fengchun Xuan.' This initiative demonstrates a blend of environmental protection and cultural creativity, setting a precedent for the transformation of traditional industries. The park fully showcases the traditional handmade papermaking process, including steps such as steaming, bleaching, pulping, sheet forming, pressing, and drying. Professional guided tours are provided to help visitors gain a deep understanding of the paper production process from fiber to finished product. Guangxing Paper Mill also features a paper art DIY classroom, offering a variety of experiential activities such as handmade paper, rubbings, paper fans, art photo frames, and paper gift boxes, allowing visitors to personally experience the joy and charm of handmade papermaking. Guangxing Paper Mill has become an important cultural tourism attraction and educational base in Puli, attracting numerous tourists and school groups to visit, learn, and experience the profound heritage of Taiwan's traditional papermaking culture.
