National Chi Nan University

Established in 1995 in Puli Township, Nantou County, the geographical center of Taiwan, National Chi Nan University was founded with the mission of spreading Chinese culture southward and overseas. It is dedicated to cultivating well-rounded talents rooted in Taiwan and possessing international mobility, offering a comprehensive range of colleges including Humanities, Management, Science and Technology, and Education. The townships surrounding the university exhibit a blend of rural and urban characteristics, bordering indigenous traditional territories, contributing to a rich multicultural foundation. Furthermore, due to its proximity to renowned recreational and tourist attractions such as Sun Moon Lake, the New Central Cross-Island Highway, and Hehuan Mountain, the university has progressively developed various interdisciplinary, socially-engaged innovative teaching programs that align with regional industrial trends, thus forming its unique educational characteristic: 'deeply rooted in Shuishalian and reaching out to Southeast Asia.' Chi Nan University is situated on a plateau in the suburbs of Puli, sheltered by the Central Mountain Range, Hehuan Mountain, and Xueshan Mountain Range. 88% of its 150-hectare campus is covered by rolling grasslands and green spaces, embraced by over 12,000 trees of 113 species, including Taiwania cryptomerioides. Cherry blossoms, plum blossoms, and osmanthus trees adorn its tree-lined paths, and it is also home to over 10 species of frogs and 110 species of butterflies. The curriculum integrates green energy, waste reduction, and smart machinery. The university was ranked 51st globally and 3rd in Taiwan in the international 'GreenMetric World University Rankings.' Each year, during the chilly early spring months of February and March, 700 Taiwan cherry trees and over 300 Japanese double-flowered cherry trees on campus successively bloom vibrant red, pink, or soft white flowers. This attracts large crowds for cherry blossom viewing, inviting them to participate in tea ceremonies hosted by the university and the community, and experience the beauty of everyday life.
