Dazhuhu Trail

The Dazhuhu Nature Trail, only 200 meters long, is the shortest trail along Sun Moon Lake. Entering from the parking lot below the highway, you'll soon find an observation deck. To the right and below the deck, the trail leads deeper towards the lakeside. At the lake surface below the trail, there's a gurgling outlet—that's Sun Moon Lake's famous special attraction: the Sun Moon Spring. In fact, it's the outlet of the Wujie Water Diversion Tunnel. During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese excavated an underground tunnel from the Wujie tribe in Ren'ai Township directly to Sun Moon Lake, diverting water from the upper reaches of the Zhuoshui River to serve as a constant water source for Sun Moon Lake. The Waterfowl Wetland—due to years of sediment accumulation, has gradually become shallow and overgrown with reeds. It's an important habitat for fish and shrimp to live and breed within the lake, as well as a home for egrets, night herons, and kingfishers. During the migratory bird season, flocks of geese and ducks gather here, creating a spectacular sight. After taking the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway up Mount Bujishan, you'll immediately cross a valley. This section of the ropeway, like a pearl necklace, draws a smiling arc in the sky. With an unobstructed view, it offers the best aerial journey to overlook the lake scenery.
