The Musheng Insect Museum is located in Puli Township, Nantou, adjacent to the renowned Nuoer Art Resort, and is one of the world's most extensively privately collected insect museums. It houses over 16,000 species of insect specimens from around the globe, with a particular reputation for its butterfly specimens. Its prized possessions include a rare gynandromorphous swallowtail butterfly specimen, showcasing the diversity and beauty of insects in Taiwan and worldwide. The museum's exterior architecture is designed to mimic a butterfly's outstretched wings; its pure white form, when viewed from above, resembles a giant butterfly, making it one of Puli's landmarks. In addition to static specimen displays, the museum features a special butterfly ecological park, a semi-indoor greenhouse space where various nectar-producing plants are cultivated, allowing butterflies to fly freely. Visitors can observe their habits up close and even witness the amazing process of a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. To enhance public awareness of insect ecological education and conservation, the Musheng Insect Museum collaborated with Japanese insect experts to develop the ecological park and provides professional guides. Through lively and engaging guided tours, visitors can shed the traditional impression of museums as somber and dark places, experiencing the mysteries of the insect world firsthand. The museum also features live insect displays, including stick insects, rhinoceros beetles, and stag beetles. Adventurous visitors can even try touching them or letting them rest on their hands, fostering a closer connection. Furthermore, the museum offers a DIY craft area, a souvenir shop, and a family-friendly outdoor play area, ensuring that visitors of all ages can enjoy an educational and entertaining time. The Butterfly Town Cafe next to the museum offers light meals and beverages, making it a great spot to relax.
