Zhongzhu Island

An important causeway connecting Dongyin and Xiyin. Originally, Dongyin was not a single island, but rather comprised two independent islands: Dongyin and Xiyin. In the past, there was a reef between the two islands named Zhongzhu Island. At high tide, it was an isolated reef island in the sea, approximately two hundred meters from Xiyin. Before the causeway connecting the two islands was built, it was possible to walk from Dongyin, across Zhongzhu Island, and wade to Xiyin at low tide. In 1975, the ROC military utilized rubble from the construction of Zhongzhu Port to build the long Zhongzhu Bridge causeway. They first constructed the 'Jieshi Bridge' to connect Dongyin with Zhongzhu, and then completed the road extending to Xiyin, thereby linking Dongyin and Xiyin. This significantly improved transportation. Today, the term 'Zhongzhu Causeway' is a more fitting description. On Zhongzhu Island, there is a stone inscription titled 'Zhongliu Dizhu' (Pillar in the Midstream). Along the road, there is also a 'Gratitude Pavilion' situated higher than the road surface. As you pass by, you can spot a bronze statue of Chiang Ching-kuo seated inside the pavilion from afar, making it a major landmark for those traveling to Dongyin. Stroll along this straight avenue, admire the evening glow of the sunset over Zhongzhu Port and the sight of the sun dipping into the sea, and enjoy a tranquil and beautiful moment.
