A majestic and beautiful yet tragic cliff. Located on the east side of Dongyin Island, behind Tianwang'ao, this is a nearly 100-meter-high, almost vertical natural sea-eroded cliff. It is majestic, magnificent, and awe-inspiring. Legend has it that during the late Qing Dynasty, pirates frequently occupied islands in the Minhai (Fujian Sea) region, causing immense suffering to the people. One day, pirates plundered Dongyin Island, and a local fisherman was killed. His wife fled to this sea-eroded cliff. With no way to retreat, and with the pirates intending to abduct and rape her, the fisherman's wife staunchly resisted. She then leaped off the cliff, sacrificing herself to preserve her chastity. Later generations, moved by her fierce loyalty and integrity, named this place 'Martyr's Gorge'. The terrain of Martyr's Gorge is treacherous. Five large characters, 'Loyalty and martyrdom echo through eternity,' are carved on the cliff face. In the center of the cliff face, a path descends into the bay, which is Martyr's Gorge itself. Visitors can follow the fenced path to the observation deck and gaze out. Looking at the canyon walls rising over a hundred meters from the sea, and the protruding rocks, one cannot help but feel deep admiration for the woman's courage. To the west of Martyr's Gorge is a rock named 'Chaste Woman's Rock', said to be named after a woman who sat there waiting for her husband to return, and it is also one of Dongyin's unique giant rock formations. Note: This area experiences strong winds and has rugged terrain. Please take extra care for your safety.
