Qingfan Harbor

Formerly known as 'Little Hong Kong' and the important gateway to Xiju, Qingfan Harbor is situated on the south coast of Xiju Island. It serves as a vital entrance and exit point for Xiju and is also the administrative center of Juguang Township. Originally named 'Qingfan' (青藩), it is said to have earned its current name due to the presence of foreign residents here. Qingfan Village, nestled on a hillside, offers excellent panoramic views of the endless sea. The white mountain village, set against a vast blue sky, exudes a Mediterranean charm. Qingfan Village covers an area of approximately 134 hectares, functioning as a commercial district, settlement, and harbor. It is the most bustling village on Xiju Island. During its prosperous era in the late Qing Dynasty, it was the only place in Matsu designated as a 'town.' Chinese and foreign ships had to wait for tides and resupply at Qingfan Anchorage before entering the Min River, leading to thriving trade and immense vibrancy, earning it the nickname 'Little Hong Kong.' During its peak, it governed Qingdong and Qingxi Villages. To this day, it remains Juguang's most vibrant market, with vendors, markets, restaurants, and government agencies all concentrated here. Walking among the village houses, slogans on stone walls and staircases transport visitors back in time. Ancient houses in the village huddle modestly among newer buildings, fishing shacks are locked, and the once-flourishing memories of sea life have faded. The national emblem on the lintel of old houses seems to sigh at the passage of time. The Qingfanjing Tianhou Temple is located above the old street, and the mighty Chen Yuanshuai Temple next to the harbor is the spiritual center of the village and the entire island, with extremely strong incense offerings.
