A tidal-limited attraction, Matsu's version of Moses parting the sea. Xiniuyu Islet, also known as Rhinoceros Islet, is Dongju's most famous intertidal zone. It is composed of various geological features such as sandy beaches, mudflats, gravel beaches, and reefs. It gets its name from its shape, which resembles a rhinoceros. As the tides ebb and flow, the islet separates from and reconnects with the main island, creating a 'tombolo' spectacle. Juguang, located outside the Min River estuary in Fujian Province, is precisely where freshwater meets saltwater. This unique environment fosters an abundance of shellfish and seafood. The area is rich in clams (flower clams), purple sea urchins, gooseneck barnacles, sea snails (sea helmets), seaweed, turban shells, and octopuses, among other diverse and delicious seafoods. It is widely recognized as 'Nature's Refrigerator,' and during every lunar king tide, shell gatherers flock here, enjoying bountiful harvests. Xiniuyu Islet is also home to the rare Matsu coastal plant, *Limonium sinense* (commonly known as Sea Lavender), which can be steeped in medicinal liquor to treat chronic ailments like rheumatism. The reefs are predominantly rocky, making it one of Dongju's excellent fishing spots. Seasonal fish like black porgy, black sea bream, and sea bass are abundant, making it a desired destination for anglers! Experience the Marvel of Moses Parting the Sea. To witness the wonder of Xiniuyu Islet's Moses Parting the Sea firsthand, you must accurately calculate the high and low tide times (the round trip takes approximately one hour), wear non-slip shoes, and it is highly recommended to constantly monitor tidal changes and be led by a local guide for safety.
