The Chipinglong Archaeological Site marks the beginning of archaeological records in Matsu. It is located on the western coast of Dongju Island, specifically at the southwest corner of Daping Village (near the police station), on a gently sloping marine terrace. Excavations were conducted four times starting in 2001. In the summers of 2004 and 2005, a Chipinglong excavation and research team, composed of researchers and the local Matsu Arts and Culture Association, discovered over 400 artifacts, including polished stone tools, pottery fragments, shells, and animal bones. The stone materials were mostly locally sourced, primarily granite, rhyolite, andesite, and tuff. Over 10,000 pottery fragments were unearthed, with sand-tempered red pottery being the most common. These findings can be traced back to prehistoric times, proving that Dongju was inhabited 6,000 years ago. Examining it from both vertical and horizontal perspectives, and considering its location at 315 meters above sea level and the impact of land subsidence, further research is needed to determine if this site was a small settlement, a burial ground, an agricultural or hunting ground, an artifact manufacturing site, or a battlefield. Note: The site has gradually fallen into disuse over time. Visitors are advised to exercise caution when walking on rugged paths. Lily Park: Encountering Dongju Wild Lilies Wild lilies were once ubiquitous in Dongju, but their numbers significantly decreased due to extensive land reclamation. Therefore, the principal of Dongju Elementary School, along with children and the community development association, worked together to restore them.
