Experience the simple, rustic charm of Eastern Fujian and witness the migration of settlements. Fuzheng Settlement, a must-visit spot on Dongjyu Island, leaves a deep impression with its unadorned scenery. Locals in Dongjyu have a saying: 'Fuzheng in summer, Dapu in winter.' As Dapu Village is located at the southern end, it perfectly withstands the northeast winds in winter. In summer, with southwest winds, Fuzheng Village at the northern tip of Dongjyu Island is most suitable for habitation. This allowed the early inhabitants of Dongjyu Island to move between the two villages' harbors for fishing according to the seasons, just as the proverb suggests. Fuzheng Settlement was once the most prosperous village on Dongjyu. After fishing yields declined, residents moved away, and garrisons decreased, its former glory faded. All that remains are dilapidated stone houses, accompanied by the Dongquan Lighthouse behind them, and the Baima Zunwang Temple, which still silently guards the village. The architectural style in the village, typical of Eastern Fujian, mostly features simple 'two-slope roofs' and 'random rubble masonry'. Compared to Qinbi, it offers a different atmosphere. Only about ten households reside in the settlement, making it quiet, simple, and uniquely charming. In recent years, the government has actively promoted settlement preservation. Fuzheng Village, once deserted, has gradually revived, becoming a precious local cultural heritage site. While the sight of empty houses might evoke a sense of melancholy, the serene beauty it exudes is the unique cultural essence of Matsu's traditional settlements. The Fuzheng Baima Zunwang Temple possesses an ancient charm. Stepping into Fuzheng Settlement reveals a beauty of simplicity and tranquility, with roof tiles and brick walls sculpted by time.
