Jinbanjing Tianhou Temple

A temple rich in cultural heritage. Jinbanjing Tianhou Temple, with a history of over a century, is said to have been built during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty by the great pirate Cai Qian seeking divine protection. It was repaired by residents during the Tongzhi period and later underwent four renovations in 1919, 1949, 1979, and 1984. It is also known as "Tieban Tianhou Temple". The ancient and quaint temple architecture retains the carved beams and painted rafters of Min-East style "feng huoshan" (saddle-back gable firewall) architecture. The interior uses Fuzhou cedar and adopts a column-and-tie structural system; components such as columns, beams, purlins, tie-beams, roof boards, dougong (bracket sets), and column bases are clearly visible. The roof features an overhanging eave construction method. The main entrance was originally a plank wall facade but was later replaced with a brick wall to protect the wooden structure from long-term weathering and damage. The temple enshrines Mazu (Tian Shang Sheng Mu), General Chen Weiwu, Emperor Huaguang, Lady Linshui, Fude Zhengshen, and other deities. The statues and altars feature rustic and delicate carving. The most famous aspect of this Tianhou Temple is that the statue of its main deity, Mazu, still retains a graceful and youthful charm, making it a highly distinctive "Maiden Mazu" statue. Two side altars are also presented in a rare "temple within a temple" format, exuding a simple and elegant atmosphere. Although not large, it boasts an unbeatable sea view, and the scenery is exceptionally beautiful.
