Jinren and Magang Trails

Enjoy exclusive, secluded tranquility on the estuary trail. Nangan, Matsu, boasts two mountain trails. One is the "Jinren Trail," connecting the villages of Jinsha and Ren'ai. Starting from Tieban, it passes Tiebao Fort and reaches Jinsha – an excellent spot to overlook the entire Jinsha settlement and enjoy the sunset! Walking on the wooden boardwalk, the beautiful scenery of Jinsha, like a mountain town, unfolds before your eyes. It's especially stunning at sunset, when golden sunlight bathes the roofs of the Min-Dong style buildings. The other, the "Magang Trail," begins at Jinsha Reservoir, passes through Shengtian Park, and continues all the way to Matsu Village. Strolling along this trail, the boundless sea view is refreshing. In spring, rhododendrons of various colors bloom along the path, while in late summer and early autumn, red spider lilies (also known as Lycoris radiata) dot the landscape. With different scenery in all four seasons, it is very suitable for hiking or strolling. In earlier times, both the Jinren and Magang Trails were military rutted roads. Due to a lack of cement and other building materials during their construction, only two narrow, track-like surfaces were laid in the middle of the road for tanks and other military vehicles. Although most of the island's rutted roads have now been converted into concrete roads, the majority of these trails still retain their distinctive rutted characteristics.
