Shengtian Park

An ancient, elegant, and fragrant fairyland. Located between Magang and Jinsha Village, Shengtian Park is situated on the western slope of Yuntai Mountain, adjacent to Chushui'ao Reservoir. Covering an area of over ten hectares, it was planned along a coastal military road and stands as a representative coastal park in the Matsu region. Beside Chushui'ao Reservoir stands a Tang-style pavilion – Shengtianting Pavilion. Built by the garrison in 1990, it primarily referenced the architectural style of Zhishan Garden in Waishuangxi, Taipei, adopting a Song-dynasty garden landscape design. With a wooden frame and grey ceramic tiles for its roof, it blends into the mountain and sea scenery, showcasing an ancient, serene beauty. Later, due to insect damage causing the wooden framework to decay, the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration (MNSA) restored it to its original appearance in 2004, giving it new life. Nestled among lush trees, it resembles a Jiangnan garden, exuding an elegant charm. From the dam bridge, visitors can take in panoramic views of the mountains and sea, and descend to the coast below. Within Shengtian Park, there is a Taiwanese Zelkova forestation area, and the jungle also nurtures a variety of native Matsu plant species. The ancient pavilion features a winding long corridor and high-flying eaves. Every late winter and early spring, as new leaf buds emerge, Chinese Tallow tree's red leaves adorn the entire forest. Surrounded by towering ancient pines, far from the hustle and bustle, ascending the stone steps reveals a beauty of 'finding tranquility in a solitary mountain'. At night, one can count the myriad stars here and listen to the sound of waves crashing against the shore, filled with poetic charm and artistry.
