A colossal stone statue of Mazu stands on the coast. Located on the mountain to the right of Matsu's Tianhou Temple, the Giant Mazu Statue was completed in October 2009. In recent years, "Mazu in Matsu" has become Matsu's primary marketing slogan. The construction of the Giant Mazu Statue, from its proposal to official completion, spanned over 10 years, symbolizing the Matsu people's profound devotion and resolve towards the Mazu faith. The Giant Mazu Statue is primarily sculpted from 365 pieces of granite, symbolizing "365 days of peace, every single day." Standing majestically on a coastal hill, its compassionate divine appearance is truly awe-inspiring. Surrounding the giant statue are twelve sculptures that narrate the story of Mazu achieving immortality. The observation deck in front of the statue resembles a ship from afar. When viewed from a distance, the Giant Mazu Statue appears as though Mazu is sailing on a ship at sea, blessing the local residents. **Height of the Giant Mazu Statue** The main body of the Giant Mazu Statue is 28.8 meters tall. This height originally corresponded to the total area of Matsu's four townships and five islands, which was 28.8 square kilometers. However, after the latest measurements revealed Matsu's actual area to be 29.6 square kilometers, a lightning rod was added to the Giant Mazu Statue during its construction, bringing its total height to 29.6 meters.
