Chiang Ching-kuo Memorial Hall

On January 13, 1988, the former President Chiang Ching-kuo passed away. Subsequently, military and government officials in Matsu discussed establishing a Chiang Ching-kuo Memorial Hall in Matsu. The site was eventually chosen on a hill west of Victory Reservoir for its construction, and it was completed and opened in June 1994. On the wall in front of the memorial park is a relief sculpture depicting Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo inspecting military and civilian defenses. The main building's color scheme references the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in Nanjing and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, adopting a 'blue tile and white wall' style. Its structure draws inspiration from the National Theater and National Concert Hall, featuring an ancient 'hip-and-gable roof' palace-style architecture. The two-story building covers an area of approximately 100 ping (about 330 square meters), exuding elegance amidst its solemnity. The first floor of the memorial hall houses a bronze statue of Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo in a seated posture and his will. The second floor displays cultural artifacts and historical materials, including old photographs of Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo inspecting Matsu's defenses over the years, as well as various handwritten documents and correspondence. These are all worth reviewing in detail, and can be said to represent the essence of Matsu's over 40 years as a battlefield.
