Daqiu

Seek out sika deer on Daqiu, Matsu's 'Little Nara of Japan'. Daqiu Island, also known as 'Sika Deer Island', is located north of Beigan and borders Gaodeng Island. Access requires an inter-island ferry. In the past, it was home to residents and military personnel, with over 300 people living there during its most prosperous period. However, due to societal changes and population migration to Nangan and Beigan, Daqiu Island became uninhabited. Currently, it is the only uninhabited island in Matsu accessible for visitors. The island features the Daqiu Ecological Trail, roughly 400-500 meters long. As you stroll along this path, you'll encounter various charming sika deer and historical military installations.
