War and Peace Memorial Park

Strongholds transformed into a battlefield park, inviting the 'ironmen' to stand guard. Dawoshan in Beigan, Matsu, was originally a military stronghold. In 2003, the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration began planning its transformation into the War and Peace Memorial Park, with the completion of Stronghold 08 marking the culmination of the planning. It has since become Taiwan's first war memorial park centered on the concepts of military history and peace. The park covers a vast area and boasts an impressive scale, with a total area of approximately 38.8 hectares. It primarily includes strongholds such as 06, 08, and 12, fully establishing the prototype for Taiwan's first war park, a museum park themed around 'War and Peace' and 'Emotion and Memory'. Due to strategic secrecy requirements, strongholds were often referred to by numbers. Strongholds 06 and 08, located next to the War and Peace Memorial Park, are built amidst rocky cliffs and reefs. The main outdoor exhibition area is concentrated at Stronghold 08, while Stronghold 12 is situated between Luoshan and Bangshan. [Stronghold 06] Stronghold 06 is located on Dawoshan in Beigan, offering distant views of Daqiu, Gaodeng, and Shiyu. Stronghold 06 features a small tunnel. Within the tunnel are an ammunition depot and numerous firing ports. Each firing port serves as an excellent vantage point, allowing visitors to experience the conditions of military life at the time. The tunnel is very damp, with small trenches along the stairs and in corners collecting dripping water to drain it outside. It's not hard to imagine that the soldiers stationed there not only had to be constantly vigilant...
