Hou'ao Village

A traditional scene steeped in centuries of history. Hou'ao Village is a typical small coastal fishing village. If you start counting from Baisha Village, Hou'ao Village is located at the very back of Beigan, making it the easternmost village on Beigan Island, hence its name "Hou'ao" (meaning "Back Ao" or "Back Bay"). Strolling through Hou'ao Village, you'll find simple and traditional settlement charm everywhere, with not much modern development. The bay to the northwest of the village is called "Aoli" by residents. The bay entrance faces northeast and is a common safe harbor for fishing boats. At low tide, the sea recedes beyond the bay entrance, revealing a large sandy beach spanning 4 to 5 hectares. In the past, walking from Hou'ao to Tangqi required wading across a long stretch of beach. Nowadays, a road has been built connecting Tangqi and Hou'ao villages, making travel much more convenient for local residents. However, separated from the bustling Tangqi Village by an airport runway and Tanghou Beach, it still retains a secluded and independent charm. Yang Gong Ba Shi Temple: Local Guardian Deity. There is a "Yang Gong Ba Shi Temple" in Hou'ao Village with flourishing incense. Villagers hold grand worship ceremonies during every festival. Legend has it that the main deity, Yang Gong Ba Shi, unfortunately lost his life while eliminating a sea dragon that caused destructive rains. After the residents laid him to rest, he often manifested his spirit to bless the villagers of Hou'ao. Later generations built a temple to commemorate him, naming it Yang Gong Ba Shi Temple, and he became the guardian deity of the area. Must-Try Matsu Exclusive Specialties: Rich Taste of the Sea.
