Jade Garden

Verdant greenery everywhere complements its military charm. Jade Garden is a recreational park situated on a hillside northeast of Wusha Village. The park is extensively planted with acacia and neem trees, and features representative local plants such as beach naupaka, creeping fig, and red spider lily, creating a vibrant green environment. It is particularly rich in fern species, making it Beigan Island's most important botanical ecological park. Within the park stands a solemn memorial tower, built in 1960, dedicated to fallen soldiers who died in the line of duty. It commemorates the sacrifice and dedication of military personnel to the Matsu region, honoring those who valiantly defended the nation. In recent years, after extensive renovation by the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration, the facilities have been significantly improved. The park now features simple trails, pavilions, stairs, and observation decks for visitors to rest and enjoy. Chinese-style bridges and pavilions lend a graceful touch to the otherwise solemn atmosphere. When visiting, consider ascending the four stone staircases; the lush tree canopy provides ample shade, making it wonderfully cool. Beyond escaping the summer heat, you can also enjoy scenic sea views and diverse plant life – truly a multi-faceted experience! Despite primarily featuring artificial vegetation, Jade Garden boasts a unique and abundant array of plant species, thanks to the interplay of natural succession, the germination of underground seed banks, and the subsequent development of forests. According to botanist Kuo Cheng-meng's survey, Beigan Island alone possesses at least 97 families and 314 species of higher plants.
