Mudan Reservoir

Mudan Reservoir is currently Taiwan's most expensive reservoir to build, boasting a grand scale. Constructed with a significant amount of stone, it was built to address the agricultural water needs of residents in the Pingtung South area and support the tourism industry on the Hengchun Peninsula. It was completed and put into service in 1995. The dam measures 445 meters in length and 145 meters in height. It collects water from the upper reaches of four streams, including the Rureng Stream and Mudan Stream. With a total storage capacity of approximately 31.19 million tons, it is sufficient to meet all water demands of the Hengchun Peninsula until 2021. The main structure of the dam includes the intake, the main dam, and the spillway, all of impressive scale. Visitors who reach the reservoir can directly ascend to the dam crest to admire the surrounding emerald sea, blue sky, and green mountains of the catchment area, an experience that is truly refreshing and invigorating. The magnificent and powerful spillway further highlights the grandeur of this monumental engineering project.
