Lagoon

The only single-mouth, sac-shaped lagoon landscape in Taiwan is located at Dapeng Bay. The water area is approximately 3500 meters long and 1800 meters wide, with the lagoon covering an area of over 532 hectares and a depth of about 2-6 meters. The formation of this lagoon landscape is due to the Donggang River and Linbian River carrying silt and sand from upstream into the sea. Through the transport action of ocean currents and monsoon winds, a long, narrow strip of sand and gravel—a "spit"—formed outside the bay, separating the original bay from the open sea and leaving only one opening, which is the lagoon terrain of Dapeng Bay today.
