Ji'an Qingxiu Temple

With its temizuya (water purification pavilion) for cleansing the mouth, body, and mind, its ancient and rustic Buddha hall, its eighty-eight solemn stone Buddhas, and its Zen-inspired dry landscape garden (karesansui), one feels as if they have stepped into a Japanese Buddhist temple, unable to resist immersing themselves in the tranquil and serene atmosphere. This is Ji'an Qingxiu Temple, a propagation center built by Manji Kawabata during the Japanese colonial period to comfort immigrants. It is a Level 3 historical site designated by Hualien County and is currently the best-preserved Japanese-style temple in Taiwan.
