Huazhai Settlement is one of the most well-preserved traditional settlements in the Penghu region. Over 300 years ago, Han Chinese migrated here. The early settlers observed the terrain: surrounding hills encircled the area like petals around a flower's heart. They then reclaimed land and built houses near this 'flower heart' (specifically, near Shanziwei Ding), and thus named it 'Huazhai' (literally 'Flower House' or 'Flower Settlement'). Due to its geographical location at the center of the four villages on Wang'an Township's main island, it was later renamed 'Zhongshe' Village (meaning 'Central Settlement').
