Erkan Village was designated by the Ministry of the Interior in 2001 as the nation's first traditional settlement conservation area. In recent years, the fully restored traditional houses have been entrusted to the 'Erkan Village Settlement Development Association' for full utilization. They have been developed into various small exhibition halls showcasing local cultural characteristics, including the Folk Life Museum, Intertidal Zone Museum, Community Museum, Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum, Traditional Toys Museum, and Baoge Ballad Museum. As you step into Erkan, the most captivating sight is the Baoge ballads, created by local residents, adorning the walls of the old houses. Their lyrics describe daily life moments or celebrate the romantic longings between men and women. Try reciting them in Minnan (Taiwanese Hokkien), and you are guaranteed to find them highly entertaining.
