Tongpan Geopark

Tongpan Islet is approximately 6 nautical miles from Magong Island. The entire island is encircled by distinct basalt columns. Its well-developed columnar joints are considered the finest in Penghu, earning it the reputation as Penghu's 'Yellowstone Park'. Both columnar and platy joints are highly developed on this island. Originally appearing in hexagonal or pentagonal shapes, the rock columns' edges have become rounded due to severe weathering and erosion, with the tops of some basalt columns having weathered into spherical forms.
