Visitor Essentials

This black-and-white striped lighthouse is the landmark of Mudouyu—the Mudouyu Lighthouse. Mudouyu is located about 3.8 nautical miles north of Jibei Island. Because its shape resembles a carpenter's ink marker (mo dou), it was named 'Mo Dou Yu'. Later, due to its similar pronunciation, it was renamed 'Mudouyu'. Among the inhabited islands of the Penghu Archipelago, Mudouyu is the northernmost one, and thus is also known as 'North Island', and the former name of the Mudouyu Lighthouse was 'North Island Lighthouse'.
