Wai'an Fishing Lights

In Penghu, the Wai'an Fishing Lights are a major highlight of the Lantern Festival. The main venue for activities is the local religious center, Wenwang Temple, which hosts various seasonal events such as the lantern-decorated Peace Bridge, throwing divination blocks to pray for 'fortune turtles,' and the 'King's Night Patrol.' However, the most captivating spectacle is the Wai'an Fishing Lights themselves, where nearly a hundred fishing boats gather in the harbor and, after nightfall, illuminate their lights, creating a mesmerizing sea lantern show. This symbolizes the promise of a bright future and the blessing of new births.
