Wukongding Trail & Wukongding Bunker

On the high ground of the east port of Jima Bay, Chima Village, Xiyu Township, lies a remnant of the Wukongding Battery. It is named Wukongding Battery because its stone walls feature five square windows carved into them, used for observing enemy movements in the inner harbor and outer sea. After Wu Hongluo, the naval commander stationed in Penghu during the Qing Guangxu period, constructed Penghu City, five batteries were built in Xiyu around 1888, with the one at Jima Bay being among them. Below the battery is the Wukongding Bunker, an an underground barracks built curving downwards along the mountain slope, featuring stepped trenches at both entrances for access. Today, only remnants of the battery remain, but the bunker has been largely preserved and is sturdy after renovation.
