Walking along the trails of Xiaomen Islet, you can discover Penghu's local characteristics, such as 'Shigandang' (stone tablets used to ward off evil spirits). You can also witness the unique agricultural cultural landscape of the Penghu Islands – the 'Cai Zhai' (walled vegetable gardens), also known as 'Zhai Nei' or 'Wei Zai'. These structures utilize stone walls to provide shade and wind protection for crops in the fields. Most Cai Zhai are constructed from locally sourced coral stone, but in a few areas with abundant water, reeds are also used as windbreak facilities.
