Houjiao Thirty Heroes Temple

According to the stele inside the temple, the origin of the Thirty Heroes Temple dates back to 1622 when the Dutch dispatched warships to invade Magong. 36 residents from Hujing Islet sailed small boats to meet the attack, but, outnumbered, they were all killed in action. Their bodies were found by villagers at two different beach locations and buried on the spot. Later, the villagers built the 'Nanpu Temple' to commemorate them, which is commonly known as the 'Thirty Heroes Temple'. The current appearance of the temple is the result of a reconstruction funded by devotees in 2017.
