Penghu Guanyin Temple

The Penghu Guanyin Temple is dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva of the South Sea. It is a highly representative ancient temple in Penghu. However, the Guanyin Temple was not only a center of faith but also served as an important strategic location. From this area, one could guard the main island of Penghu and also overlook Yuweng Island and Baisha Township. There were records of stationed troops here even before Dutch rule in 1622, and this military arrangement was continued during the subsequent Ming Zheng (Koxinga) and Qing Dynasty periods.
