This area, originally known as Doutou Street or Shuixian Temple Street, was one of the most prosperous streets in Magong City in the past. Shuixian Temple was one of the local centers of faith. However, nowadays, most people are more familiar with the Taixia Jiao Guild Hall, as Shuixian Temple has been used as the guild hall since 1875. A 'Jiao' refers to a commercial guild during the Qing Dynasty, and the Taixia Jiao was a commercial guild established by merchants who conducted trade between Taiwan, Penghu, and Xiamen during the Qing Dynasty.
