Baikeng Village Stone Pagoda

The Baikeng Stone Pagoda was erected by early settlers who believed that northeasterly monsoon winds from the northern sea would directly enter the village, causing what they called a 'flying evil' (or 'malignant influence'). The pagoda was built to protect the village's peace, but the exact date of its construction is unknown. Interestingly, the Baikeng Stone Pagoda is the only painted stone pagoda in Penghu and has a solar-powered beacon light installed on its top. In earlier times, there were no landmarks nearby, so the Baikeng Stone Pagoda played a significant role in guiding ships. At low tide, the pagoda can be reached by walking across the exposed sandy-shingle ground between it and Baikeng Beach.
