In front of Tongliang Pier stand two symmetrically placed charm altars, erected to pray for the safe passage of fishing boats entering and leaving the harbor. Atop these altars are sculptures of Jiang Taigong and Guanyin Bodhisattva. Their purpose is to ward off malevolent forces, control the waters, and prevent 'Thousand-Year Ships' (unseen ships) from entering the port.<br />Source: Oral accounts from local elders of Tongliang Village.
